Design Is Attitude (Dieter Rahms)
Creating livable and sustainable communities.
Are you interested in the intersection of creativity, Design and Technology, and would you like to help shape living spaces in a sustainable and future-oriented way? This degree program is designed for individuals who wish to reflect on the significance of technical and creative processes for our present and future living environments. Especially in light of declining interest in technology among children and adolescents, as well as a significant gender gap, this field makes an important contribution to basic technical education and to providing guidance in a key cultural area.
Career Opportunities
The teacher education program trains students to become teachers of general education subjects at secondary schools (New Middle School, General Upper Secondary Schools, Intermediate and Upper Vocational Schools, Polytechnic Schools, etc.).
It provides a solid foundation in subject-specific knowledge and teaching methodology in two academic subjects or in one academic subject with a specialization, as well as training in general educational theory and practical pedagogy.
Students can flexibly choose their courses or specialization from a selection of 24 courses and one specialization, allowing them to pursue their individual interests and career goals.
Program Overview
The program offers a multifaceted insight into Design and Technology and combines practical experience, academic study, and pedagogy. The Center focuses on the creative design of our living environment—from materials and technical processes to finished products. Students learn to systematically bring their own ideas to life and to combine technological developments with creative thinking.
The combination of practical experience and technical expertise opens up exciting possibilities at the intersection of design, space, the human body, and Technology. Complementary content on teaching methodology specifically prepares students to teach technical and creative skills in educational settings.
The curriculum ranges from fundamental technical knowledge and practical skills to research and teaching methods. Experimental work is just as much a part of it as structured development and analysis processes.
A specialization focuses on the integration of traditional craftsmanship and digital technologies. Projects involving electronic textiles or digital fabrication demonstrate how modern design and technical innovation come together, opening up numerous opportunities for practical and forward-looking work.
